Well, its very vital that you have both a like for video games, and a set of skills in all the different types of games. You need to be excellent at First Person Shooters, but you also need to be excellent at getting through Role Playing Games, and so on and so forth. I say this because you are going to be playing through a lot of games as a tester, and you will have to look for things that are not right in the games programming so that they can be fixed before the games release. While you may normally have been able to breeze through games normally, you will have to take your time making sure all works the way it is supposed to. That being said, you need to be able to hold your interest in one game for a long period of time, because it is very doable that you may spend an entire day, if not an entire work week looking and playing through one game to ensure it is perfect and ready to be unrestricted to the general public.
There are many ways to get a legit game tester job, and now that a new age group of console game systems are on the way in, the job of a game tester will be in very high demand.
